Faculty members are encouraged to include a statement on their syllabus which informs students about methods for receiving disability accommodations. The syllabus statement should inform your students that accommodations are available for students with disabilities and you are willing to provide these accommodations. Be sure it is clear in writing and/or when they contact you that they need to be registered with SAS, provide you with an accommodation letter, and speak to you personally in order to use academic or testing accommodations. This interaction and communication is necessary for your protection, as well as the protection of the student and the University.
You may use the sample statement below, or, if you prefer, you are welcome to develop your own statement to meet the specifics of your course. Contact SAS at Ext. 7411 should you have questions about how to word a syllabus statement for your course(s).
