Types of Aid

Financial aid at Trinity comes in various forms:

Merit scholarships: Merit scholarship eligibility is determined during the admissions process.  These funds are considered “gift” assistance and do not have to be repaid.  Awards are based on talent and academics.  The Office of Admission notifies scholarship winners at the time of admission to the university.   Eligibility is not re-evaluated in subsequent years of enrollment.

Grants: Grants are gift aid based on demonstrated need and are funded from federal, state and/or institutional sources.

Loans: Trinity participates in multiple loan programs to help families meet their educational costs not covered by need-based aid.  Loan options include federal, state, institutional and private resources depending on eligibility.  A loan is money that is borrowed and must be paid back with interest.

Federal Work-Study: Part-time employment program to help students meet indirect costs such as personal expenses.   In order to be considered for Federal Work Study, students must complete the FAFSA each year and demonstrate financial need.  Eligible undergraduate students may work 8-10 hours per week.  Wages begin at $7.25 per hour with the potential to earn approximately $2,400 per academic year.  Earnings are paid bi-weekly directly to the student based on the number of hours worked in the corresponding pay period.

External Scholarships: External resources awarded by an organization other than Trinity University.  Students are required to notify the Financial Aid Office of any external funds they will receive by completing the External Scholarship Notification Form.  The receipt of external resources may require the University to reduce the amount of federal and/or state need-based aid offered to a student so the total aid does not exceed the demonstrated financial need of the student.  It is University policy to divide scholarship funds equally between the fall and spring semesters unless specified differently by the donor.  External Scholarship checks may be mailed to:
