Burago-Kleiner and McMullen constructed coarsely dense nets in the plane that are not bilipschitz equivalent to the standard integer lattice. We will discuss this construction and give examples of the same phenomenon in other groups such as the three dimensional solvable Lie group Sol and lamplighter groups.
