Having taught English courses at Trinity University for five decades, clearly I value being an instructor at an institution that attracts students with intellectual promise, self-discipline, and a desire to make this world a better one.
My students regularly tell me that my focus in my teaching is to introduce them to literature that deals with dark subjects so that I can stress that bad things happen and that we, as privileged, enlightened, educated humans must persevere, prevail, and make a positive difference, no matter what.

I serve annually as master of ceremonies for the Cancer Research and Therapy Center's Book and Author Luncheon, their primary fundraiser, and I lead book discussions in Literary Excursions at the San Antonio Public Library Foundation weekly for twelve weeks annually. : Beyond that, I offer my services as speaker for other organizations whose work I value, such as the McNay Art Museum's "ArtFULL Wednesdays," the Mission Road Ministries, Gemini Ink's galas, and the Assistance League of San Antonio.
