Lecturers and Visiting Scholars Committee

The LVSC procedures have changed. Effective with the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year, proposers can submit requests in one of two categories as follows:

  • Interdepartmental Proposals, supported by two or more additional departments with contributions of at least $50 each. The LVSC will support interdepartmental proposals with a maximum of $750.
  • Departmental Proposals. The LVSC will support departmental proposals with a maximum of $300. Support by additional departments is optional.

Please note that the committee is more likely to support funding for travel, lodging, and honoraria than for receptions and dinners. Events are expected to engage a significant number of students. Students may propose speakers by enlisting endorsement by faculty in departments or programs.

To request funding for a visiting scholar, please do the following:

  • Complete the application cover page form. Please delete the portion of the cover sheet that does not apply to your application (i.e., use and include only the interdepartmental form or the departmental form, as appropriate).
  • Provide a detailed description (not to exceed one page) of the speaker's activities while on campus, including dates, meetings with specific classes, and opportunities to talk to students.
  • Provide a brief curriculum vitae for the speaker.
  • If needed, include copies of emails from chairs making contributions of monetary support.
  • Attach any other relevant documents.
  • Email the documents to David Ribble as a single PDF document
  • The complete application may not exceed five pages, including the cover page.
  • You will receive an acknowledgement confirming receipt of the proposal. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 24 hours, please call David Ribble, AVPAA-BR at (210) 999-8363.
