Trinity University maintains various types of property and casualty insurance coverages, including (but not limited to):

  • auto liability insurance  on University-owned and hired vehicles (rental cars)
  • auto physical damage coverage on hired vehicles
  • general liability insurance
  • legal liability insurance
  • property insurance for University property claims (including scheduled fine art and musical instruments) that exceed the University's deductible
  • temporary property insurance may be added for exhibits or items on loan if the items are added to the schedule in advance

Time is of the Essence

Following any accident or incident of theft or property damage, file an Incident Report with the Trinity University Police Department as soon as possible.

In addition, please report all incidents (as well as potential claims) to the Office of Risk Management and Insurance. Risk Management will submit the claim to the insurance carrier for consideration for claim coverage. Departments will be responsible for the first $300 (deductible) of each claim paid.

Cases without Coverage

The University does not provide insurance coverage for personal vehicles used by employees, students, or volunteers. It expects the individual's personal auto insurance policy to cover any incidents.

Instead of maintaining collision coverage on its own fleet, the University self-insures for collisions. There is no insurance coverage available for physical damage claims to the University's fleet vehicles.

Additionally, there is no insurance coverage against theft of personal items. Personal items are expected to be insured by the individual's homeowner or renter insurance.
