Weddings in Parker Chapel

Trinity University's Margarite B. Parker Chapel was dedicated in 1966 as a place of Christian worship in the center of the campus. Weddings at Parker Chapel are services of worship; practices and music relating to weddings in the chapel are regulated by religious considerations.

Regulations for Weddings at Margarite B. Parker Chapel


Trinity University's Margarite B. Parker Chapel was dedicated in 1966 as a place of Christian worship in the center of the campus. Weddings at Parker Chapel are services of worship; practices and music relating to weddings in the chapel are regulated by religious considerations. The main sanctuary accommodates 600 people. Those wishing to have civil or non-religious services should find other facilities.

Wedding Availability

Weddings are held on Saturdays at:
11 a.m.-noon (chapel access starting a 9 a.m.)
3-4 p.m. (chapel access starting a 1 p.m.)
7-8 p.m. (chapel access starting a 5 p.m.)

The wedding party will have access to the chapel two hours prior to the service and for one hour after the start of the service for a total usage period of three hours. Any exceptions to these times will be in effect only after receiving written confirmation of the exception from the Chapel Office.

Trinity reserves the right to determine the times and uses of the chapel.


Rehearsals are typically scheduled for one hour the Friday before a Saturday wedding at 5, 6, 7, or 8 p.m.


The University Chaplain is available to officiate weddings, schedules permitting, although any ordained minister may officiate at the request of the bridal couple.


The University Organist will play for all the weddings in the Chapel. If the University Organist is unavailable, the Chapel Office will arrange for the services of one of the Chapel's assistant organists. If other arrangements are desired, the bridal couple must contact the University Organist.

Wedding Coordinator

Each couple will be assigned a Wedding Coordinator who will be present during the rehearsal and wedding. The coordinator functions as a chapel steward, communicates and enforces chapel policy, helps coordinate wedding details, and assists the wedding party and the minister. The coordinator will contact the bride or groom and schedule a meeting to assist with coordinating the details of the wedding.

Within the wedding ceremony, worship is the principal guide. A wedding in the chapel is conducted in the presence of God. The selection of music should be appropriate to the religious setting. Please leave secular and popular music for the wedding reception. A list of suggested wedding music is available at the Chapel Office.

Parker Chapel possesses one of the finest organs in the southwest, as well as a superb grand piano. It is permissible to include instrumental music into the ceremony that utilizes string or wind instruments, harp, or piano. The bridal couple is responsible for hiring musicians other than the organist, if so desired. The music list must be approved by the University Organist and turned in for review at least two weeks prior to the wedding date. Vocal music is allowed and the bridal couple will be responsible for hiring the vocalist(s). Vocal music may be in any style (classical, contemporary Christian, gospel, etc.) provided the text is sacred in nature. If you have any questions regarding text appropriateness, please contact the University Organist for assistance. Electronic or recorded music is not permitted.


The following are items that are available for the couple's use if desired, at no extra fee:

  • Two candelabra 
  • Silk flowers arrangements
  • Kneeling bench
  • The following are items the couple may supply if desired:
  • Unity candle 
  • Floral arrangements: Simplicity should be the rule for wedding flowers. If you hire a florist, please allow for a consultation with the wedding coordinator. No more than three flower arrangements may be used in the chancel area.

Please note: 

  • Aisle and pew decorations are not permitted, nor are wax candles other than those furnished with the sanctuary.
  • No confetti, rice, or flower petals can be thrown in or around the chapel.
  • The furnishings and liturgical appointments in the chapel may not be moved.
  • During most of December the chapel is decorated for the Christmas season; please ask the coordinator for details.

Photographs and Videos

  • Photographers and videographers are not permitted to walk about the chapel during the service.
  • Photographers are not permitted to take flash pictures during the service.
  • While a particular wedding celebration's participants or circumstances might be deemed newsworthy, due to the religious nature of the service, news crews, reporters, and/or cameras are not permitted.
  • Video lights during the service are not permitted.
  • Videos of the wedding may be taken from unobtrusive locations in the chapel. Videos from the balcony provide the best coverage. 
  • The videographer should consult with the coordinator for details.
  • Wireless microphones must be tested and checked prior to the wedding to be certain that they do not interfere with the chapel's wireless mikes.

Smoking and the Use of Alcohol

Smoking or alcohol use is not allowed in any area of the chapel.

Chapel Usage Fees

(To help defray the cost of maintaining the chapel.)

  • Chapel Sanctuary Fee $1,100 (Seats 600)
  • Chapel Sanctuary Fee $400 (For Trinity University Affiliates: Trinity University students, alumni, faculty, staff and trustees or their children)

Liability Insurance

The wedding couple must purchase mandatory liability insurance to cover the dates of the rehearsal and wedding. The type of insurance required is a broad commercial general liability insurance naming Trinity University as an additional insured. Coverage must include personal injury and property damage, with a limit of liability not less than $1,000,000 for each occurrence. Proof of insurance is due to the Parker Chapel office six weeks prior to the wedding date. You may purchase the liability insurance with EIIA or you may choose your own provider. Please see instructions to purchase insurance via EIIA's web site in the application packet.


Half of the usage fee is due with the application and the balance will be due at least eight weeks prior to the wedding date. The total fee is due as the deposit for Trinity University Affiliates. 


Refunds will be given, less $50 for administrative costs, for cancellations made at least eight weeks prior to the wedding date. Weddings cancelled less than eight weeks from the wedding date will forfeit the deposit.

Staff Fees

University Chaplain: $300 (Depending on Availability)
Organist Wedding Fee: $200
Organist Wedding Rehearsal Fee (optional): $100
Organist Accompaniment Rehearsal Fee (optional): $50
(Practice time needed to accompany vocal or instrumental soloists. This fee is per rehearsal.)

The above staff fees are due the evening of the wedding rehearsal. The chaplain and organist fees may be paid in cash or check, made out to the chaplain or organist.
